The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.
Alumni Network
In 2004, People For the American Way Foundation launched Young People For (YP4), a strategic long-term leadership development program that identifies, engages, and empowers the next generation of progressive leaders to affect social change on their campuses and in their communities. The Alumni Network will continue this mission by ensuring that the relationships and work completed during the YP4 Fellowship are sustained and supported over the long-term. The YP4 Alumni Network will build a community of young progressives committed to cultivating and supporting YP4 programs and fellows through mentorship, networking, advanced leadership trainings and much more. Join the YP4 Alumni Board:
The success of the YP4 Alumni Network depends on a strong core group of committed alumni to serve on the Alumni Board. The Alumni Board is a leadership development and capacity-building initiative that will provide alumni with an opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and contribute significantly to YP4. The board will consist of 12 diverse members from across the country and will provide alumni with the opportunity to plan networking events, serve as YP4 trainers, participate in advanced leadership trainings, mentor current YP4 Fellows, and much more. YP4 realizes our best resource is our alumni. Good nominators ensure that YP4 receives a diverse pool of qualified fellowship applicants as well as priceless perspective on the existing work happening in your community.
