What is the Summit all about?

The National Summit is the start of the YP4 fellowship. All of the new fellows come together for five days of essential trainings, workshops, strategizing and networking around how to be more effective on their campuses and in their communities around social justice issues and progressive values. They also meet our senior fellows, partner organizations, and supporters.

At the Summit, fellows meet other young progressive leaders from all over the country and learn powerful strategies and tactics for creating sustainable social change. This includes learning the key tools for developing a Blueprint for Social Justice proposal.

What should I pack? What should I wear?

It’s important to YP4 that you are comfortable. You’ll be hard at work at the National Summit, meeting new people. No need to go shopping or pack a suit. Be comfortable, be yourself — wear whatever you want to wear.

Keep in mind, it’s COLD (and might even snow!) in Washington, D.C. in February, so pack accordingly.

What should I know about traveling to the National Summit?

  • Be sure to bring your Metro card (you’ll receive this in the mail in January).
  • Remember all travel documents, including your plane ticket (or e-ticket confirmation), itinerary and government-issued photo ID.
  • NOTE: Most major airlines have a minimum $15 checked luggage fee. YP4 will not cover this expense. We recommend using carry-on luggage.
  • Remember, due to security regulations you can travel with liquids only in containers no larger than 3 oz and all containers must fit into one Ziploc bag. The hotel will provide shampoo, soap and lotion.
